The work was commissioned by the symphonic orchestra “Scaramouche” for use as a opening-tune or encore at their concerts. It is a free, one-movement adaptation of Milhaud’s work for (originally) 2 pianos “Scaramouche”, in which elements from the three movements of the original work were combined to a short, pleasantly playable tribute to the versatile composer Milhaud.
“Scaramouche” is the French equivalent for “Scaramuccia”, a character from the Italian Commedia dell’ Arte.
